Illinois man arrested for fatal hit-and-run motorcycle accident

According to the Rock County, Wisconsin, sheriff, police have arrested an Illinois man allegedly connected to the Easter Sunday hit-and-run motorcycle accident that left two Janesville, Wisconsin, men dead. The accident occurred on the evening of Easter Sunday at approximately 8 p.m. when a black 2004 Infiniti SUV struck two motorcycles. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other died later at Janesville’s Mercy Hospital.

The two motorcycle riders were reportedly traveling with a group of motorcyclists west on Highway 14 behind a Toyota Sienna. Reports indicate the driver of the Sienna had to swerve to avoid colliding with the Infiniti, which crossed the centerline and apparently struck the two motorcycles.

Last Thursday evening, Wisconsin police received an anonymous tip via the 911 center about the vehicle suspected of causing the motorcycle crash, leading to the arrest of a man in Park City, Illinois. Police arranged to transport the suspect’s vehicle to Milwaukee’s Wisconsin State Crime Lab for evidence processing, which involves comparing automobile parts collected from the scene with the suspect vehicle.

According to the sheriff, Rock County detectives worked closely with the Park City Police Department to make the arrest and hope to have the suspect extradited back to Wisconsin as soon as possible. The sheriff also praised the 911 center and said they did a good job handling the anonymous caller. The suspect is currently incarcerated in the Lake County, Illinois, jail on two counts of hit-and-run causing death.

This story illustrates how important it is to get involved anytime we see wrongdoing in the community. If the anonymous call had not come in, the case may have gone unresolved forever and the victims’ families might never find closure. In addition to ordinary citizens who want to do the right thing, motorcycle accident attorneys can also play an important role for victims and family members involved in a motorcycle crash.
