Illinois workers should be aware that workplace accidents can happen anywhere. They are not solely reserved for construction sites or factories. Even an office worker can become a victim. Unfortunately, one man died from his injuries after he was pinned by an out-of-control vehicle.
The tragic incident occurred on the afternoon of Jan. 6 in Kentucky. A worker in the service department at a Ford dealership was at his desk when a vehicle pinned him against his desk. A co-worker was inside the vehicle. He had accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to move forward and forcing the victim to become stuck. The 50-year-old man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
This freak workplace accident proves that no work environment is safe. Even a desk employee can become injured or killed in some way. That’s why it’s important for employees to always be aware of their surroundings and practice safe behavior at all times.
When a fatal workplace accident occurs, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will typically investigate the scene to determine how the accident occurred and who can be held liable. Most likely, the employer will be held accountable
If so, the family of the victim may wish to pursue legal action. They may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit in order to recover compensation and gain closure. A sudden death in a family can cause not only emotional stress but financial stress as well. A lawsuit can help a grieving family pay for expenses related to the death, such as lost wages, medical bills and funeral expenses.
