There is no doubt about it. Drug crimes as some of the most aggressively prosecuted crimes in regions throughout the nation including the Naperville area. One local man is facing that reality right now. He is one of 11 individuals who have been charged with drug crimes related to heroin.
It is important for anyone who has been charged with a crime of any type to realize that while disheartening, a charge is not the same as a conviction. Accordingly, at that point it is vital to begin one’s defense, if he or she hasn’t already. This is particularly true when the drug involved is heroin as the consequences tied to convictions related to this drug are often harsh.
The23-year-old man in this case has been charged with at least one count of each of the following:
- Unlawful Criminal Drug Conspiracy
- Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance
- Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance Within 1,000 feet of School Property
- Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance to a person under the age of 18
The most desired outcome of any drug case is of course securing a not guilty verdict. While this does happen, even when it doesn’t there may be alternatives to prison time via avenues such as drug court or Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities probation. First time offenders may be eligible for other programs as well.
Depending on the man’s previous record as well as the role he played in the alleged drug conspiracy, it is possible that some of these alternatives could be available to him.
