Hugh Hefner, the 86-year-old founder of Playboy, entered into wedlock for the third time on New Year’s Eve. His new wife, who is 26 years of age, is said to have signed an ironclad prenuptial agreement before the wedding. According to a source, the new Mrs. Hefner will not be added to Hefner’s will but will be taken care of. As readers in Illinois may know, Hugh Hefner is estimated to own a fortune worth $43 million, which is to be divided among his four children, a list of charities and the University of Southern California.
The wedding, which had initially been scheduled for June 2011, had to be called off as the bride changed her mind just five days before the scheduled date. The couple reconciled in May 2012 and Mr. Hefner has stated recently that he wants to stay with his new wife until he dies. The couple has a 60-year age difference between them which, according to Hefner, is not a matter of concern.
This is Hefner’s third marriage. He married for the first time in 1949, which ended in a divorce 10 years later. The tycoon married for a second time in 1989, which ended after nine years. Hefner has four children from his two previous marriages.
After a divorce, a couple is supposed to split all the assets acquired during the marriage. Each partner is entitled to a fair share of the assets acquired during the marriage period. However, if the couple signs a prenuptial agreement before the wedding, each partner is entitled to only that share mentioned in the agreement irrespective of the net assets owned by the other partner. In other words, a prenuptial agreement is a contract that the couple enters into before the wedding so as to save their fortune, protect assets or otherwise determine division of assets in the event of a divorce.
